Vintage butcher block made in 1938 by the The Michigan Maple Block Company. The company was founded in 1881 and is still in operation today. The maple hardwood is cut into strips and glued together then cut to size. There are 4 steel rods that extend through the block with the steel rod caps which provide lateral support. This piece has tremendous character and patina.
The labels are on opposite sides. The legs are also put together in strips, glued then spun on a lathe. A couple of legs show a separation of surface seams. But the separation does not extend beyond that strip of wood. The integrity of the legs is excellent.
