Our design protected lock block systems prevents any block from pushing through even if the wood is allowed to become too dry in hot kitchen environments. Each block we make is made for you, we do not carry finished stock, we do try to keep a good quantity of Sycamore to.

Orders but a lack of quality merchant stock following lockdown has made this very difficult! Believe as time served craftsmen that the block needs to arrive with you as "New Stock", any wood kept as a stock product will naturally swell and contract with changes in humidity, heat, and sunlight. The block we provide to you will never be more than 2 weeks old, further more the wood is UK home grown and supplied to us by a well known local sawmill and kiln, it has not travelled 3000 miles over the North Atlantic!!

We make our blocks from Sycamore, known for centuries for it's natural antiseptic properties and robust nature for the butchery industry. We can supply blocks made from Canadian Hard Rock Maple upon request and at no extra cost.

We bolt through our blocks with stainless steel rods and cap the ends with tight fitting bungs. You can rest assured that a butchers block from Herd and Son will give years of life.
