Black Walnut, Teak, and Padauk End Grain Butcher Block - 17" l x 9 1/4" w x 1 1/2 h Handmade in the USA, finished with food safe, long lasting and water resistant Mahoney's walnut oil (3 coats) and wax (2 coats). Plantation-grown Teak (Tectonic grands), Native to Costa Rica and Central America, this tree is planted exclusively for forestry management, along with a high demand for this timber.
Teak heartwood is a uniform golden brown without markings. Grain is usually straight to slightly wavy, and the texture is coarse, uneven and oily to the touch, sometimes with a white glistening deposit. African Padauk (Pterocarpus soyauxii) is native to central and tropical West Africa, often grows in small groups and is reported to be common in dense equatorial rain forests. Padauk is an exotic wood that is a bright orange or almost crimson wood when freshly cut, but oxidizes to a darker, rich purple-brown over time - although it stays redder than Indian Rosewood. Slightly harder and heavier than Indian Rosewood it is a good wood in all respects.
